Sammye Ruth VanHooser McCrary, of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away Monday April 28, 2014 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Henderson and Lola Hoover VanHooser. Mrs. McCrary was also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth VanHooser and by her husband, Dr. Nile O. McCrary who died in 2012.


Mrs. McCrary is survived by her son, Dr. S. Van McCrary of East Setauket, NY; cousins, Robert J. and Anna Wood Vance of Murfreesboro, TN and Elizabeth Alsup Thurston and Dr. Clark Thurston of Keller, TX; brother in law, Emmet K. McCrary and his wife Bobbie of Murfreesboro, TN; sister in law, Lillian McCrary of Murfreesboro, TN and other cousins, nieces and nephews.Mrs. McCrary was a retired educator with 41 years of service. She was a member of the Craddock Study Club, Beta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Colonel Hardy Murfree Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of the War of 1812, and a member of North Boulevard Church of Christ. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Julian Goodpaster and William Bryson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with Dalton McCrary, Michael M. Vaught, Judge Ben Hall McFarlin, Jr., Carey Smith, Robert McMillian, and Gary Green serving as pallbearers. A native of Hanover Township, PA, he was the son of the late Edward and Helen Miller.Mr. Miller was a graduate of Kings College, Wilkes-Barre, PA. Music filled his life, along with his love for dogs. MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Police in Murfreesboro are investigating a double homicide on Tuesday morning.

Murfreesboro Police officers responded to reports of gunfire at 2206 Sycamore Circle around 1:55 a.m. and arrived to find two people shot.


One person died at the scene, while the other died after being taken to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. No identities were released, pending notification of family.


Officers remained on scene Tuesday morning as they worked to gather evidence, including shell casings. It was unclear how many shots were fired, but two neighbors called police to report the gunfire.


Police are still in the early stages of their investigation, but believe it could be gang related.

Murfreesboro Police officers responded to reports of gunfire at 2206 Sycamore Circle around 1:55 a.m. and arrived to find two people shot.


One person died at the scene, while the other died after being taken to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. No identities were released, pending notification of family.


Officers remained on scene Tuesday morning as they worked to gather evidence, including shell casings. It was unclear how many shots were fired, but two neighbors called police to report the gunfire.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Police in Murfreesboro are investigating a double homicide on Tuesday morning.

Murfreesboro Police officers responded to reports of gunfire at 2206 Sycamore Circle around 1:55 a.m. and arrived to find two people shot.


One person died at the scene, while the other died after being taken to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. No identities were released, pending notification of family.


Officers remained on scene Tuesday morning as they worked to gather evidence, including shell casings. It was unclear how many shots were fired, but two neighbors called police to report the gunfire.


Police are still in the early stages of their investigation, but believe it could be gang related.

A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Henderson and Lola Hoover VanHooser. Mrs. McCrary was also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth VanHooser and by her husband, Dr. Nile O. McCrary who died in 2012.


Mrs. McCrary is survived by her son, Dr. S. Van McCrary of East Setauket, NY; cousins, Robert J. and Anna Wood Vance of Murfreesboro, TN and Elizabeth Alsup Thurston and Dr. Clark Thurston of Keller, TX; brother in law, Emmet K. McCrary and his wife Bobbie of Murfreesboro, TN; sister in law, Lillian McCrary of Murfreesboro, TN and other cousins, nieces and nephews.Mrs. McCrary was a retired educator with 41 years of service. She was a member of the Craddock Study Club, Beta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Colonel Hardy Murfree Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of the War of 1812, and a member of North Boulevard Church of Christ. Police In Murfreesboro Investigate Double Homicide - NewsChannel5





MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Police in Murfreesboro are investigating a double homicide on Tuesday morning.

Murfreesboro Police officers responded to reports of gunfire at 2206 Sycamore Circle around 1:55 a.m. and arrived to find two people shot.


One person died at the scene, while the other died after being taken to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. No identities were released, pending notification of family.


Officers remained on scene Tuesday morning as they worked to gather evidence, including shell casings. It was unclear how many shots were fired, but two neighbors called police to report the gunfire.


Police are still in the early stages of their investigation, but believe it could be gang related.

William Jay Miller, age 74 of Murfreesboro, TN, died Saturday April 26, 2014. A native of Hanover Township, PA, he was the son of the late Edward and Helen Miller.Mr. Miller was a graduate of Kings College, Wilkes-Barre, PA. Music filled his life, along with his love for dogs. He took pride in his volunteer work with AOL, Ask A Teacher Forum, and earning the Volunteer in the Lights award.Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Miller of Murfreesboro, TN; sons, Jay Miller of Mountaintop, PA, Wayne Miller of Hanover Township, PA, and David Miller of Murfreesboro, TN; daughter, Barbara Stevenson of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Penny Wright of Florida; Four grandchildren and One great-grandchild.Graveside service will be 2:00 PM Friday at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Bill Werth officiating. Sammye Ruth VanHooser McCrary, of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away Monday April 28, 2014 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Henderson and Lola Hoover VanHooser. Mrs. McCrary was also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth VanHooser and by her husband, Dr. Nile O. McCrary who died in 2012.


Mrs. McCrary is survived by her son, Dr. S. Van McCrary of East Setauket, NY; cousins, Robert J. and Anna Wood Vance of Murfreesboro, TN and Elizabeth Alsup Thurston and Dr. Clark Thurston of Keller, TX; brother in law, Emmet K. McCrary and his wife Bobbie of Murfreesboro, TN; sister in law, Lillian McCrary of Murfreesboro, TN and other cousins, nieces and nephews.Mrs. McCrary was a retired educator with 41 years of service.
