Dr. Frank Wade was arrested for DUI in Murfreesboro on Sunday.
A Murfreesboro doctor faces a DUI charge after his arrest early Sunday morning.
According to police, Frank Wade was pulled over just after 12:30 a.m. on Memorial Boulevard after an officer witnessed his SUV swerving.
Wade, 44, smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet. He also had bloodshot, watery eyes, the report stated.
Wade was taken into custody after he performed poorly on a field sobriety test.
Police also discovered an unloaded handgun in the vehicle.
Wade, a physician at Family Practice of Murfreesboro, is charged with DUI. He was booked into the Rutherford County jail on $1,000 bond.
The Tennessee Department of Health said Wade does not have any previous disciplinary actions.
Wade returned to work Monday and according to Shelley Walker with the Tennessee Department of Health, there is no state rule in place that would prevent Wade from continuing to practice medicine.
She added that being charged does not automatically prompt action against a medical professor's license.
