Recap: Middle Tennessee vs. FIU - MiamiHerald


Murfreesboro, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Edward Simpson scored 14 points on 4- of-5 shooting from 3-point range to lead his Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders to a 65-52 win over the FIU Panthers in Conference USA action at Murphy Athletic Center.


Reggie Upshaw tallied 11 points and grabbed six rebounds for Middle Tennessee (8-7, 1-1 C-USA), which ended a two-game win streak with the win. Jacquez Rozier added 10 points and five rebounds for the Raiders.


Dennis Mavin scored 31 points to lead FIU (8-7, 1-1), but he also turned the ball over five times. The Panthers saw a two-game win streak come to an end with the loss.


Middle Tennessee connected on 53.8 percent of its shots from the floor in the first half, and took a 35-22 lead into the midway break. FIU hit on 41.2 percent from the field, making just 1-of-6 from 3-point range.


The Blue Raiders shot an even 50 percent from the floor in the second half, including 4-of-8 from 3-point distance, to keep the lead in their possession. The Panthers improved to 47.1 percent shooting, but it wasn't enough to make any sort of comeback.


Middle Tennessee owned a 32-16 advantage in points in the paint, and the Raiders' bench outscored FIU's bench, 35-2, in the win.
