MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

An elderly couple was killed in a crash as they were leaving a Murfreesboro church Sunday afternoon.

It happened at 1:10 p.m. in front of Franklin Road Baptist Church on Old Fort Parkway/Franklin Road.

Murfreesboro police said Ann Piercy, 78, exited the church's parking lot to turn left onto Old Fort Parkway and was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound.

She and her passenger, 79-year-old Harold Piercy, were transported to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The driver of the car that hit the couple, 24-year-old Frederick Carney, and his passenger, 24-year-old William Walker, suffered minor injuries and were also taken to Saint Thomas for treatment.

Police said the cause of the crash was Ann Piercy's failure to yield. No charges were filed.

Harold Piercy would've turned 80 on Friday.
