MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Officials are asking anyone who may have come into contact with the young woman who was killed in Murfreesboro to contact police.

Heather Maples, 22, was found dead by a friend on Friday morning inside an apartment across the street from the Middle Tennessee State University campus.

Police said they believe she was at Gentleman Jim's Bar on Greenland Drive from 10 p.m. until midnight Thursday and then went to the Handlebar on East Main Street until 12:45 a.m. Friday.

She reportedly went back to Gentleman Jim's, where she stayed until 2 a.m. before returning home to the apartment at 910 Brown Dr.

Police are investigating Maples’ death as a homicide. They said this does not appear to be a random act of violence.

Murfreesboro police spokesman Kyle Evans said the victim and suspect likely knew each other.

“We just know they weren’t total strangers,” Evans said. “This wasn’t just a random act of violence. We believe there was a type of relationship. To what extent, we are still investigating.”

Maples, who is originally from Mesquite, Texas, was not a student at MTSU.

Police have not released a description of the suspect. So far, no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 615-893-2717 or Crime Stoppers at 615-893-7867.
