MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz spent Monday in middle Tennessee.

The Texas senator spoke to about 1,000 people in Murfreesboro before making an appearance in Franklin.

In front of the standing room only crowd, Cruz talked about some of the things he would do if elected president.

“Rip to shreds the catastrophic Iranian nuclear deal,” Cruz said. “Open an investigation into Planned Parenthood.

“I will work in Congress to repeal every single word of Obamacare,” he added.

Cruz received several standing ovations as he laid out his platform.

Before coming to Murfreesboro, Cruz was in Chattanooga for an event. While there, he and his family visited a memorial for the five service members killed during an attack on two military facilities last month.

During a later speech before a church audience, Cruz vowed that as president, service members will be allowed to carry weapons on U.S. installations.

“But in the days that follow in 2017, we will see a commander in chief who stands up and says we will defeat radical Islamic terrorism,” Cruz said. “We will allow service members to exercise their Second Amendment rights and carry weapons.”

Cruz has campaign events planned across Tennessee on Monday. The state’s primary will be held on March 1, 2016.
