NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A comedian who appeared on The Tonight Show on Wednesday shared a story with Jimmy Fallon about a heckling experience he had during a gig in Murfreesboro.

John Mulaney, star of the new Fox show Mulaney, said Murfreesboro - which he pronounced as "Murf-freers-boro" throughout his story - was the site of "one of the worst shows I ever had."

"There are about nine R's in Murfreesboro," he said.

On Thursday, students at Middle Tennessee State University and the school's president Sidney McPhee had some fun with the comedian's miscue.

McPhee sent MTSU gifts to Fallon to keep or give to his audience.

Mulaney said the gig took place at an outdoor campground near a beer truck.

According to Mulaney, a heckler shouted out, "Excuse me, sir. I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we would enjoy silence more than the sound of your voice."

"Insanely mean, no? But also, how very eloquent," Mulaney said to Fallon.
