Officials said one driver was killed in a multi-vehicle crash near the Murfreesboro Airport on Monday afternoon.
Police said just after noon, three vehicles were stopped at the intersection of Memorial Boulevard and Airport Road when a dump truck rear-ended a pickup truck. The truck hit the car ahead of it and that car hit another in another lane.
The driver of the pickup truck, William Hall, was transported by LifeFlight to a nearby hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.
Christy Walters witnessed the crash and said she thought a bomb had gone off.
"It was just like a really large boom, like a bomb or they dropped something huge, like big rocks or something," Walter said.
Police said the driver of the dump truck was not hurt. Two other drivers involved were not seriously hurt in the crash.
Memorial Boulevard was closed for several hours from Heritage Park to the Post Office at Irongate. The roadway reopened just before 4 p.m.
The owner of Melton Construction Company, the company that owns the dump truck, told Channel 4 he did not have a comment at this time.
This crash is still under investigation.
