Lane "Spencer" Dixon Jr., 67, of Murfreesboro passed-away peacefully with family on Monday, March 16, 2015. Spencer was raised in Memphis, TN as a member of Union Avenue Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Lane Spencer and Grace Elizabeth. Spencer was a devoted husband, father, brother, friend and patriot and endeared by the many loved ones he leaves behind.
Spencer served in active duty as a Scout Dog Handler of the 9th Infantry during the Vietnam War and was decorated with several medals; including 2 Bronze Stars, with a "V" Device for valor, and a Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Messick High and Memphis State University, attaining a Master's Degree in Management. He retired from Alvin C. York Medical Center as Chief of Volunteer Services.
As an artistic man of many passions, Spencer enjoyed wood-working, traveling, painting, poetry, history and playing in the dirt whenever possible. He was active within many community organizations throughout his life; such as the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the American Red Cross. Spencer was also a long-time dedicated supporter of the Democratic Party.
Spencer is survived by his wife Patrice Putland Dixon; sons, William Lane Dixon and wife Michelle, of Waco, TX and Randolph Spencer Dixon and wife Amanda of Murfreesboro; grandchildren Isabella Margarite, Spencer James, Elizabeth Ann and Summer Grace; sisters, Elizabeth May of Douglasville, GA, Sharon Testerman of Orlando, FL and Freda Green of Collierville, TN.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM, followed by funeral service, on Sunday March 22nd at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, TN. Interment will be 11:00 AM the following Monday at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Pegram, TN.
Spencer will be greatly missed.
