Murfreesboro, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Jimmy Hall finished with 20 points and eight rebounds as the Kent State Golden Flashes defeated the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, 68-56, in the opening round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at the Murphy Center.
Derek Jackson netted 16 points and Kris Brewer added 12 for Kent State (22-11). Brewer also dished out six assists in the victory.
Jacquez Rozier and Perrin Buford each scored 10 points for Middle Tennessee (19-17). Rozier and Reggie Upshaw each pulled down eight rebounds in the loss.
The Golden Flashes entered halftime with a 40-29 lead over the Blue Raiders. Kent State shot an impressive 53.6 percent from the field in the opening period, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Middle Tennessee was held to a 40.0 shooting percentage.
Although KSU converted only 34.5 percent from the field against Middle Tennessee in the second half, the Golden Flashes held the Blue Raiders a 31.8 shooting percentage, which included just 3-of-11 from beyond the arc.
Kent State outscored Middle Tennessee 24-14 in the paint, and the Golden Flashes turned the ball over just four times in the win.
