MURFREESBORO – The westbound lanes of Interstate 24 were shut down in Rutherford County early Friday morning after a person jumped from an overpass.

The possible suicide happened near Old Fort Parkway and Interstate 24 West, according to THP dispatch. Despite earlier reports that the person who jumped from the overpass was a man, the victim was later identified as Tami Jo Marchello, 47, of Mead, Colo., according to a Murfreesboro Police Department news release.

She was pronounced dead at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital, the release stated. Officials didn't confirm how Marchello got into the roadway. Foul play is not suspected.

The MPD Violent Crimes Unit continues to investigate the incident.
